Memory card reader help please? (trying to upload pix)?

Hey all,
I have a casio exilim 8mp camera. I got a card reader that comes with it, and you can plug it into the side of the computer, and USUALLY (like normal usb plug in anythings) it pops up into windows, and you can upload your pics when the window pops up,

Formatting it erases everything. Dont do that in the computer, do it in the camera.

If its an SD card theres a little switch on the side that keeps people from doing things like formatting the card in the computer (dont do that, do it in the camera when you need to wipe the disk). Make sure the switch is slid to the right spot and try it again.

Dont format the card in the computer EVER!!!! It makes it unuseable for your camera in many instances and then what are you going to do with it? And dont format the card until you have the pics safely onto your computer and you know they are on your computer, safe.

Try the “safely remove hardware” thing in your computer (assuming your running windows XP or higher) and then unplug the USB card reader, put the card in the reader if its not at this point, and then plug it back into your USB port. Also I’ve had problems with different cords. Some work, some dont. If you have different USB cords try a different one.

Lastly, in deperation, you may try uninstalling and re-installing the card reader, but as fhotoace said, you probably have a corrupt card. It happens. If your running Windows Vista, turn off ready boost before you start the process. It would really suck to finally get into your card only to have Vista write over everything that you just almost got too.

If you find its a bad card, throw it away. It’s not worth the headache that your currently having.

If all else fails, take it to Ritz. They will charge you but it may be worth it.
