Digital Camera Memory Card Locked

Digital camera won't recognise memory card?

I've just purchased a Canon IXUS 100 IS and a Kingston 4GB Micro SDHC Class 4 memory card (the shop assistant advised me that this card was compatible with the camera). I've charged the battery and come to tun the camera on, to find a message stating 'memory card error'. I've checked that the card is inserted correctly, and that the lock switch is off, but the camera won't recognise it. Does this mean that the card and camera are incompatible? Or am I missing something?

Any advice appreciated!

Have you formatted the card using the format feature on the cameras menu?

If the camera will not format, there may be a problem with the card you bought. Return it and take your camera with you when you exchange the card for a new one. This will make sure that you get a usable memory card.

Is there a reason you did not buy a Kingston 4 gb SDHC card? There is really no reason to buy a microSDHC card unless you intend to use the card on something that uses a microSDHC card.
