Multi Camera Memory Card Reader
Which operating system will run faster on my new emachine em250 netbook?

Which will run faster? Windows 7 Ultimate or the ever reliable (but aging) Windows XP?. I never tried installing Win 7 on a low spec Intel Atom netbook before. Thanks.

eMachine eM250-01G16i
•Linux Operating System
•Intel Atom N270
•1.60GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB
•Mobile Intel 945GSE Express Chipset
•1GB DDR2 667 Memory
•10.1″ SD WSVGA
•160GB SATA hard Drive
•Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR
•10/100MBps fast ethernet
•802.11 b/g Wireless LAN
•Multi in One Card Reader
•Built in Camera

If you’re feeling frisky, you can probably run Mac OS X on it with Quartz Extreme and Core Image support, as that netbook has a GMA 950 integrated graphics adapter. Windows 7 will feel very sluggish on this model because of the GMA 950. Otherwise, just get a normal version of Ubuntu or stick with Windows XP with Service Pack 3.

Buy Card Readers

A card reader can be used to send and receive data from a memory card or smart cards. Most laptops and desktops come with inbuilt card readers to read different types of cards and memory devices. A memory card reader is usually a USB interface that can read various memory formats such as CompactFlash cards, secure digital cards etc. Some card readers are compatible with more than one type of card and can be used to read data from numerous types of cards with different specifications. An example of such a multi card reader is the USB port available in computers that can be used to connect a typical USB, a smart phone with a memory card, a camera with different types of memory cards, memory sticks etc. Such card readers do not have any inbuilt memory capacity. You can also buy card readers compatible with different memory cards for your PC.

There are three main types of memory card readers – Single card reader, multi card reader and series card reader. As the name indicates, a single card reader is compatible with only one single type of card while a multi card reader can detect a large number of memory card types. It is usually denoted as x in 1 where ‘x’ indicates the number of card types it can detect. For instance 9 – in – 1 indicate that it can detect 9 different types of memory cards. A series card reader can detect a series of cards of the same type only. For detecting most types of memory cards, you need to buy a card reader. However some types of memories such as Intelligent Sticks do not need a card reader and can be inserted directly into the port of a computer. Many modern PC have inbuilt card readers instead of floppy drivers because the former is more advantageous than the latter. However you can buy additional card reader to detect more types of cards.
